ASEDEME- Association Sénégalaise pour la Protection des Enfants Déficients Mentaux

Founded in 1989 by Aminata Mbaye, ASEDEME aims to fight against the ostracism of “different” children by offering a structure capable of welcoming and caring for them.

Two medico-educational institutes dedicated to intellectuel disability (mild, moderate, trisomy, autism and associated pathologies) welcome 150 children and young adults aged 5 to 25 years in Dakar and Saint Louis in Senegal.

Trough workshops within its institutes, young adults discover and learn a new occupation: ceramics, production of fruit juice, sewing, cooking, gardening. This apprenticeship has enabled some to obtain employment contracts and internship with partners companies of the association.

The FAAU supports ASEDEME in extending its activities at the Saint Louis institute where 30 children and young adults are to get more appropriate care. With this support, it will be possible to equip the psychomotricity room, to strengthen existing workshops and to create other workshops to develop new activities (cooking, green spaces and sewing).
